I’m often asked in my designs to create a master bedroom on the principals of a luxury hotel bedroom, but what does this mean?
A luxury hotel bedroom typically features high-end furnishings, elegant décor, and state-of-the-art technology. Some of the key elements that contribute to the luxurious feel of a hotel room include:
Comfortable and spacious bedding, with high-quality linens, pillows, and blankets.
Large, well-appointed bathroom with luxurious amenities like rain showers, deep soaking tubs, and premium toiletries.
High-end technology, including large flat-screen TVs, sound systems, and smart home controls.
Elegant and sophisticated décor, often featuring rich fabrics, elegant light fixtures, and art or other decorative accents.
Plenty of natural light, with floor-to-ceiling windows or skylights that offer views of the surrounding area.
High-quality minibar and in-room dining options.
Additional touches like fresh flowers, electric candles, and special lighting can enhance the luxurious feel of a hotel room.
Overall, a luxury hotel bedroom is designed to provide guests with the ultimate in comfort, style, and technology, offering a truly unforgettable experience. That’s why we want it at home…
To have this at home is often governed first by space, then by budget. If there is the advantage of an en-suite, or one can be created, then we look at the whole space and plan accordingly. Typically a dressing area or dressing room, relaxation zones to sit, have breakfast, or simply curl up and read make it a personal space. In a home smart controls with voice activation are easier to set up than hotels, allowing personal set up of lighting, heating and sound. In comparison this is my approach to a hotel room design in the more amenable hotels who have the vision and ability to incorporate this, it’s not that difficult anymore.
In any bedroom, the more luxurious the bedding, the better the comfort, we can all tell the difference between cheap bedding and more expensive, it’s a touch thing… Invest in that and you are halfway there. Sheet are always best white, but bed covers, pillows, shams and accessories as bold as you want.
Pillows are important and very individual so take time to choose the correct ones and size for the bed, it makes for a better night’s sleep, equally with the mattress and bed choice, don’t rush it, and try it out a number of times.
An oversized headboard makes for a dramatic statement piece, soaring to the ceiling or expanding wall width, always dramatic in mixed fabrics and finishes, wood marble, leather. Impressive lighting, dimmable, low lamps and warm white bulbs soften the atmosphere, with more appropriate levels in bathroom and dressing areas to ensure we look our best
Wooden floors may be popular but it’s always a sense of luxury to step onto a deep carpet or rug, keep the harder floors to the bathrooms. The final design of course is down to the brief, but anything is possible, if you work with the designer, you can get the master bedroom of your dreams.
