Bridging the Gap between Traditional Feng Shui and High-End Contemporary Design

In a soon-to-be-launched podcast with Alexander Cadisch of Phos Lighting, I was asked a great many questions, but the main one for me was how do you merge the old system with the new? It's not a simple answer, as you will hear when it's broadcast, but essentially, it's what the Interior Design Feng Shui School is all about. It took me over 30 years to realise how the subtle changes and adaptions I made in my projects and services created this unique system of Feng Shui.
Part of our design process, not exclusively, with Modern luxury design, prioritises flow and functionality. Feng Shui does the same by optimising Qi (energy) through intentional spatial planning. Open floor plans, curved pathways, and balanced furniture arrangements align with both contemporary aesthetics and Feng Shui’s avoidance of stagnant energy. It's the beginning of our understanding, and from here, it progresses in a guided way as we design.
The very core of interior design, drawing in the energy balance of Feng Shui, created something unique to the industry that had been ignored for so long. I set up the school, taught in showrooms around London to instil a new sense of balance, well-being and energy into the design process. Since COVID-19, we have all been more aware of our vulnerability and equality in that area. Introducing wellness into everyday life, living standards, and design is the way forward.
Feng Shui might not seem the most natural thing, as a designer, architect and especially Property Developer, to introduce into your workload, but as Andy Parsons quoted me in a recent LinkedIn post
“You walk into a house and something just feels right. That instinct, that natural sensitivity, is part of our human heritage. Feng Shui simply helps us train and apply it.”
My course, developed over 36 years, is different to most. It focuses on the requirements of interior Design and Architecture. It fine-tunes a system so that you can start learning in a day and, over a very short period, begin to instinctively elevate your projects in a way that reinforces harmony without a change of design style. You will see the difference, your clients will notice and appreciate it, and if you are a developer, designing with Feng Shui in mind makes homes more desirable, more profitable, and more likely to sell. This is especially so in the luxury market where those clients have a great deal of respect for Feng Shui and how it achieves that essence of stability required in this tumultuous age.
Why not attend one of my CPD courses, the next one on 25th April at the newly refurbished Rimadesio Flagship Store, Wigmore Street, London. It's a focused, no-nonsense course for Designers, Architects and developers at all levels, and homeowners too.
